Google Places is going through some big changes right now. (7/19/2012) It is being worked into the new Google+ family of Search/Social tools provided by Google. It’s hard to say at this point, but the chances of the Google+ effort making a real dent in the Facebook popularity competition looks pretty good. And if anyone can do this kind of thing, it’s Google. Just the same, Google Places is here today if not in the near future and we have to deal with what is at hand, right? So let’s look at how to rank better in Google Places Local Search right now.

A lot seems to be riding on the Search Category under which you list your business. After all, it only makes sense. So For Google Places it might be a good idea to make the best Search Category listing the equivalent of your web search Primary Keyword Phrase.
- You should have the Google Places Search Category within your business name for the best results.
- Make sure your Google Places Search Categories appear in the “at a glance” section of your Google Places listing.
- Your business description should include your Google Places Search Category.
- 1 to 4 business reviews in Google Places will do you little good. The magic number seems to be 5 business reviews in Google Places. Once you get to 5 or 6business reviews Google Places, you can relax. The next magic number appears to be 100+ business reviews!
